Chapter 5

"I thought that we were going to the movies tonight. And I thought there was no more bad guy?" I could tell in her voice that she was disappointed. The words from her therapist were to try to conduct a normal relationship. To go on dates, longs walks, movies and the like. Loving a guy like me was going to be hard for her. And I was going to try to do everything that I could to make it up to her. Unfortunately, right now the team and I had work. "I'll just turn in early."

I was throwing on clothes when I called to cancel with Tonya "Yeah, well plans have changed. Drea's got us back on the case." Hopping on one foot trying to put on my tennis shoes. I couldn't help but hear the disappointment in her voice, even if I would have asked her about it she would deny it. "What about this. Come over to Ryan's house in about an hour. You and I can leave from there to any movie that you want to see. I’m pretty sure there will be a late show playing at the Plaza. Just promise to me at Ryan’s." I was already in the car and headed to Ryan's as she discussed the pros and cons of every movie that was currently out. "Baby, I don't care long as I'm in the dark with you."

"You are a sweetheart; I'll see you in about an hour. Love you."

"Love you too baby see you soon." I hung up the phone and headed to Ryan's.

Cellphone still in my hands I made the call. "This is Kinney." The man sounded like he had a mouth full of gravel.

"Kinney, this is Moore. It looks like we are back on." I waited, it was a bit after 9pm and the man must of been down for the count. "Look, DEA has put us back in position. They have visual on one of Battaglia’s man making a call; we're going to Ryan's for review." He heard the man breathing on the other end of the line. "Kinney, hello?"

"I heard you Moore; let me get some clothes on. I'll be there in a second." I heard the rustling of sheets.

"Kinney, I was just keeping you abreast of what we were doing. You don't have to-"

"Moore, I constructed this team. I will be there, besides I have information your brother would like to hear. See you in 5." The line went dead.

Agent Kinney swung his legs off the bed unto the floor. It usually took him a few seconds to put weight on the weak appendages as of late. In the dim light he looked at himself in the closet mirror. Half the man he used to be, literally. Pulling on the right leg of his boxers the puckered skin screamed. Still, red like the fire that he was in engulfed in months ago.

Six months and 17 days. 7 surgeries, each enduring grating the skin off his back and ass to puzzle piece the skin on his legs.
